Nitrile is a man-made rubber, made from synthetic polymers including
butadiene and acrylonitrile. Butadiene creates flexibility and tear resistance, whilst acrylonitrile enhances chemical resistance. Poor quality or low cost nitrile gloves, often use ‘fillers’ to reduce costs, such as clay, calcium carbonate and silica. Fillers possess poor strength and flexibility properties, resulting in gloves that can tear easily and provide low chemical resistance. 2

Beware of Bricking

Poorly manufactured gloves that are not dried or stacked properly will stick together, known as ‘bricking’. Bricking results in gloves that are crinkled, making them harder to don and impacting tactile sensitivity.
